SOTU Reaction #1 Humor and Randomness

  • Is there anything lamer than Congressional President groupies camping out on the aisle hours beforehand to get a second on camera, and maybe an autograph afterwards? (I'm looking at you Dennis Kucinich)
  • The tone of the opening and the closing of this speech was generic optimistic SOTU stuff, it makes nice listening, but its what you expect.
  • The tone of the middle of the speech was very "chidey" if I may coin a horrible word.  Papa Obama is NOT pleased with the way his naughty children Congress and Wall St. are behaving, and if they don't start behaving, he WILL turn this car around!
  • Joe Biden is one fidgety dude.  I find him wildly entertaining and likeable.
  • at least 5 references to things still being Bush's fault by my count.  This is kind of a lame excuse 3 years in.  I think it makes him sound kind of desperate, and if this tactic still carries any weight with the American people, that's sad.
  • oh God, "worth crying over spilt milk" joke. just... uhhhh
  •  Paul Ryan is a stud. Also, man does he look happy at an "all options energy policy"
  • Eric Cantor looks very serious, but is not a very coordinated clapper.
  • Camera shots of the Joint Chiefs are always somehow simultaneously unnerving, hilarious, and patriotic
  • Chuck Schumer has some shifty eyes for an otherwise pretty jovial looking fellow
  • William McRaven looks smart... this only makes him more terrifying
Added Upon Further Reflection
  • Mitch Daniels, you are cordially invited to join me and Paul Ryan on our totally platonic man-love weekend in Park City
  • Seal team Congress is a great image, and is begging for somebody with photoshop skillz to make a captioned picture.
